Model History and Information: The Royal Australian Air Force acquired 75 F/A-18 Hornets, 57 single-seat A models and 18 two-seat B models, assembled locally and entering service from 1985. Serialled in the A21 range, they were Australia's frontline fighters until retirement in 2021. The Aircraft Research and Development Unit, based at RAAF Base Edinburgh, is the service's flight-test organisation, tracing its origins to Second World War performance-trials flights and carrying the motto 'Prove to Accomplish'. ARDU conducts testing and evaluation of aircraft, weapons and systems across the RAAF inventory. A21-32, a single-seat A model, reflects the Hornet airframes used to support such trials and clearance activities.
