Model History and Information: The Red Devils are the oldest active fighter squadron in the Marine Corps, tracing their lineage to VF-3M, commissioned at Naval Air Station San Diego on 1 September 1925. Across a century the squadron has flown more than a dozen types, from Boeing and Curtiss biplanes through Dauntless dive bombers, Corsairs, Panthers, Furys, Crusaders and Phantoms to the Hornet, and it fought in the Second World War, Korea, Vietnam and the Gulf. It was the last Marine unit to leave Vietnam, in September 1973. The squadron is based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar with Marine Aircraft Group 11.
