Model History and Information: The Golden Warriors were established in June 1968 as VA-87, the first fleet squadron to fly the A-7 Corsair II, and flew their first combat missions from USS Ticonderoga in March 1969. They became a strike fighter squadron in October 1986 on the F/A-18A and later moved to the F/A-18E Super Hornet, based at Naval Air Station Oceana with the radio call sign War Party. The squadron deployed aboard USS George H.W.
