Model History and Information: Kenneth A. Walsh was the first Marine Corps pilot to score an aerial victory in the Vought Corsair and received the Medal of Honor for his actions over the Solomon Islands in August 1943. He returned to combat in 1945 with VMF-222 on Okinawa, where he scored the 21st and final victory of his career in June 1945. The F4U-4 was the last Corsair variant to see combat in World War II; its water-injected R-2800-18W engine and four-bladed propeller made it faster and quicker to climb than earlier versions, and Marine squadrons flew it from Okinawa's airfields during the final months of the Pacific war.
