Fokker E.III Eindecker, E339/16, Lt. Josef Jacobs, 1916
Product Dimensions: 5.91 x 8.07 x 1.97 in.
Model History and Information: The Fokker E.III Eindecker was a German fighter monoplane designed by Anthony Fokker for the air war of the First World War. Its forward-firing machine gun used a synchronizing mechanism to shoot between the rotating propeller blades. This arrangement let the pilot aim the entire aircraft at a target, a consequential change in early aerial combat. Fokker monoplanes posed a serious threat to the Royal Flying Corps in the spring of 1916, and the Eindecker helped drive the adoption of dedicated fighter units and formation tactics. A surviving E.III is held by the Science Museum.
