Model History and Information: Dassault calls the Rafale an omnirole fighter, meaning it is meant to switch between tasks inside a single sortie: air superiority, interdiction, reconnaissance, close support, deep strike, anti-ship work and the French nuclear deterrent mission. The single-seat C and two-seat B versions serve with the air force, and Saint-Dizier was the first base to receive them, from 2006. With four squadrons and close to fifty aircraft it remains the principal Rafale base in France, while the navy flies the carrier-capable M version.
