Model History and Information: The 2A7+ is the Leopard 2 reworked for the kind of fighting that Cold War tanks were never designed for. Where earlier marks concentrated their armour at the front, on the assumption of a tank battle in open country, this version adds modular passive protection along the sides and rear against rocket-propelled grenades and shaped charges, the threats a tank meets in a city. Krauss-Maffei Wegmann showed it publicly at Eurosatory in 2010, the German army tested it under an urban operations programme, and the first vehicles reached the Bundeswehr in 2014.
