Model History and Information: The MiG-17F was a swept-wing, single-seat day fighter and the mainstay of North Vietnam's early jet force. The 921st Fighter Regiment, nicknamed 'Sao Do' (Red Star), was the Vietnam People's Air Force's first jet fighter unit, formed in 1964 and initially equipped with the MiG-17. During 1965 the regiment was active in defending North Vietnamese airspace against United States strike aircraft, relying on the type's cannon armament and manoeuvrability in close combat. Its pilots recorded several engagements with American aircraft that year. Claims tied to a specific individual airframe and date could not be independently verified, so the aircraft is presented in the context of its unit and period.
