Model History and Information: Constantin Cantacuzino (1905-1958) was Romania's highest-scoring fighter ace of the Second World War, flying with the Royal Romanian Air Force. After Romania left the Axis and joined the Allies on 23 August 1944, he undertook a widely documented mission: flying the senior American prisoner of war in Romania, Lieutenant-Colonel James Gunn, from Romania to the Allied airbase at Foggia in Italy aboard a Messerschmitt Bf 109. The flight helped arrange Operation Reunion, the airlift that evacuated more than a thousand American prisoners held in Romania. Cantacuzino continued flying operations afterward.
