Model History and Information: The Shenyang J-11 is China's development of the Su-27 Flanker, a large twin-engined air-superiority fighter. The J-11BGH is a naval-aviation upgrade: it takes the naval J-11BH and adds a modern active electronically scanned array radar and other 4-plus-generation avionics. First delivered to the People's Liberation Army Naval Air Force's Southern Theatre Command from 2021, the upgraded fighter can carry China's latest air-to-air weapons developed alongside the J-20, the long-range radar-guided PL-15 and the short-range infrared PL-10. The result is a much more capable maritime interceptor, extending the reach of Chinese naval aviation over the seas around China.
