Model History and Information: The Jeep Wrangler is a compact off-road SUV built since 1986, tracing its lineage back through the civilian CJ series to the World War II-era Willys MB. It keeps a body-on-frame construction, live axles front and rear, part-time four-wheel drive with low-range gearing, and removable doors and roof with a fold-flat windscreen on open-top versions, features aimed squarely at off-road capability rather than everyday comfort. Four generations have followed this format: the YJ (1987-1995) with square headlights, the TJ (1997-2006) which reintroduced round headlights and coil-spring suspension and added a four-door Unlimited model in 2004, the clean-sheet JK (2007-2018), and the current JL, which since 2021 has also been offered as the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid. The Wrangler remains one of the most recognisable dedicated off-road vehicles still in production.
