Model History and Information: Germany announced on 25 January 2023 that it would send 14 of its own Leopard 2A6 tanks to Ukraine, with the first arriving at the end of March 2023, as part of a wider European tank coalition; by late February 2023 Germany, Portugal, Sweden, Poland, Spain, Norway and Canada had together pledged 71 Leopard 2 tanks, including Portugal's 3 Leopard 2A6 and Canada's 8 Leopard 2A4. KNDS, formerly Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, identifies the Leopard 2A6M as a 65-tonne main battle tank with a 120 mm L55 smooth-bore cannon, a longer barrel than the L44 gun of earlier Leopard 2 versions.
