Model History and Information: The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor is a twin-engine, single-seat stealth fighter developed for the United States Air Force as the winner of its Advanced Tactical Fighter programme. Evolved from the YF-22 demonstrator, the aircraft first flew in 1997 and entered operational service in December 2005. It combines low-observable design, supersonic cruise without afterburner, thrust-vectoring agility, and sensor-fusion avionics to perform the air-superiority mission, with a secondary ground-attack role. Produced jointly by Lockheed Martin and Boeing between 1996 and 2011, the Raptor was built in relatively small numbers, with 195 aircraft completed including test examples. It remains among the most capable air-superiority fighters in service.
