Model History and Information: The M1A2 SEP (System Enhancement Package) entered US Army service beginning in 1999-2000, adding digital battle-command networking, a second-generation thermal sight for the commander and an auxiliary power unit to the M1A2 without changing the tank's silhouette. Fitted here with the mechanical track-width mine plow used on M1-series Abrams, the tank can clear a lane through a minefield: the plow's blades push buried mines out of the tank's path or flip them over so that their blast vents downward instead of upward, letting following vehicles pass safely. The plow is raised for road travel and lowered into the ground for breaching.
