Model History and Information: The M1A2 SEP V2 update, accepted into US Army service in 2008, kept the M1A2's silhouette while replacing its computers with faster processors, adding color flat-panel displays and giving the commander a Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station (CROWS) to fire the roof machine gun without exposing himself. Second-generation forward-looking infrared sights improved night and adverse-weather target acquisition for the gunner and the commander alike. The changes built on the original M1A2 SEP program of 1999-2000, which had already added digital battle-command networking and an auxiliary power unit.
