Model History and Information: The Cat® M318D wheeled excavator belongs to Caterpillar's D Series line of wheel excavators, which combine the digging and lifting capability of a tracked excavator with the road mobility of rubber tires, letting the machine travel between short assignments without a trailer. Machines in this class are used for urban construction, utility, and roadside work where sites are close together and road travel is frequent. Caterpillar's wheel excavator line has continued through several generations, including the M316 and M318 models also produced as Diecast Masters models in Core Classics and High Line packaging. This 1:87 scale High Line Series replica of the M318D is built to a smaller scale than the 1:50 Core Classics editions of the M316D and M318F cataloged in the same range.
