Model History and Information: The Cat® M323F is a road-rail wheeled excavator built to travel and work on railway tracks, used for ballast work, track maintenance, and lineside tasks. Caterpillar offers the machine to run on any of three gauges Caterpillar lists for the model — UIC standard gauge (1,435 mm), metric gauge (1,000 mm), or broad gauge (1,600 mm) — using a hydrostatic rail axle system with rail all-wheel drive, and it can travel up to 20 km/h (12 mph) on rail. A removable counterweight lets the machine meet both road and rail weight regulations while keeping its lifting and excavation performance. This 1:87 scale model is finished in a Safety Bright Yellow paint scheme rather than Caterpillar's standard Cat Yellow, distinguishing it from the other 1:50 and 1:87 M323F editions in the Diecast Masters range that carry the standard Cat Yellow livery.
