Model History and Information: The M8 was a six-wheeled American light armored car developed from 1941 to replace earlier gun motor carriages, entering production after Ford's T22 design was selected in 1942. It carried a 37 mm main gun in an open-topped turret and was built in large numbers for reconnaissance work. After the Second World War, surplus M8s were widely distributed through military assistance programs, and the Republic of China on Taiwan operated the type, with preserved examples displayed in Republic of China Army markings. Postwar users commonly reassigned armored cars to internal-security and constabulary duties once frontline units re-equipped.
