Model History and Information: Not to be confused with the wheeled armored car of the same designation, this M8 was a self-propelled howitzer built on the M5 light tank chassis by Cadillac. About 1,778 were produced between 1942 and 1944, mounting a 75 mm howitzer in an open-topped turret to give light armored units a mobile close-support weapon. Following the war, American materiel reached Nationalist Chinese forces through military aid, consistent with use by the Republic of China Army in the late 1940s. The particular vehicle and its markings could not be matched to primary records, so no crew, action or unit event is asserted here; the account reflects the type and its fire-support role.
