Model History and Information: The Mercedes-Benz E-Class of the 210 series launched in 1995 with a design created by Steve Mattin under design chief Bruno Sacco, and a front end defined by four elliptical headlamps, described by Mercedes-Benz as a twin-headlamp face. In August 1999 the saloon received a major facelift in which more than 1,800 components were replaced or modified. Changes included a lowered front end, body-coloured door handles and side skirts, new tail lamps and a redesigned rear bumper. The E 220 CDI and E 320 CDI diesels were introduced with the update. In total, more than 1.6 million 210 series cars were built.
