Messerschmitt Me 262A-2a, 'Blitz Bomber', 1944
Product Dimensions: 5.83 x 6.77 x 1.97 in.
Model History and Information: Messerschmitt's Me 262 was a German jet aircraft developed before the Second World War and introduced to combat in its final phase. Engine problems delayed the program: the aircraft first flew on jet power alone in July 1942, and small numbers of fighters and fighter-bombers operated from mid-1944. The A-2a belonged to the fighter-bomber line, although individual airframes could later serve in fighter units. Allied pilots confronted an aircraft faster than their piston-engine fighters, but chronic supply shortages limited its operational use. A surviving A-2a is preserved by the Royal Air Force Museum.
