Model History and Information: Slovakia inherited a fleet of MiG-21s when Czechoslovakia divided in 1993 and continued to operate the third-generation MF version through the 1990s. That model combined the RP-22 Sapfir radar and a built-in GSh-23L cannon with the R-13-300 engine, carrying R-3 series missiles on four pylons. The Slovak Air Force retained these Fishbeds as a front-line type before retiring them in the following years and transitioning to the MiG-29. Sliac, in central Slovakia, is one of the service's principal air bases.
