Model History and Information: The Escadrille La Fayette was formed in April 1916 by American volunteer pilots flying for France before the United States entered World War I, and its heritage lives on in the French Air Force squadron that carries its name and its Sioux head insignia. In 2016 the squadron, then flying the Mirage 2000N two-seat strike aircraft, marked the 100th anniversary of the escadrille with a special commemorative scheme. The Mirage 2000N carried France's airborne nuclear deterrent from 1988 until the type was retired in 2018.
