Model History and Information: The Panther Ausf.G, built from March 1944 to April 1945 by MAN, Daimler-Benz and Maschinenfabrik Niedersachsen Hannover, was the most numerous Panther version, with roughly 2,950 hulls completed. Compared with the earlier Ausf.D and A, it deepened the ammunition sponsons to hold 24 rounds per side rather than 18, for a total of 48 rounds instead of 36. From around September 1944, late-production hulls received a redesigned gun mantlet with a lower "chin" section meant to stop shots deflecting down through the hull roof, along with strengthened final-drive housings. The tank kept the high-velocity 7.5 cm KwK 42 L/70 gun and sloped frontal armour that made the Panther Germany's most capable mass-produced tank of the war.
