Model History and Information: China's wheeled armoured personnel carriers grew out of a family of amphibious designs developed from the 1980s onward, built to move infantry quickly on roads and still cross water obstacles without preparation. The layout is conventional for the class: an armoured hull carrying a small crew and a squad of infantry in the rear compartment, a roof-mounted heavy machine gun or a light turret for support, and water propulsion for the amphibious role. Vehicles of this type equip People's Liberation Army mechanised units and appeared in the parades held in Beijing.
