Model History and Information: The ZSL-10 belongs to the Type 08 family, an eight-wheeled amphibious platform developed by Norinco through the 1990s and 2000s and accepted into People's Liberation Army service in 2008, which gives the family its designation; it was first shown publicly at the 1 October 2009 National Day parade in Beijing. As an armoured personnel carrier, it moves a squad of infantry in a rear compartment behind an armoured hull, with an open, armour-protected QJC-88 heavy machine gun mount for close support and water-jet propulsion for amphibious crossings. The same chassis underlies the ZBL-08/ZBL-09 infantry fighting vehicle and the ZTL-11 wheeled assault gun, among more than twenty derivatives; the International Institute for Strategic Studies' Military Balance 2024 placed the family's total strength above 5,950 vehicles in People's Liberation Army service.
