It debuted at the Paris Motor Show on 5 October 1972, and all 500 had sold by the end of November. Production eventually reached 1,580 cars across Sport, Touring, racing and base variants. Its 2.7-litre fuel-injected flat-six made 210 PS at 6,300 rpm, and the lightweight Sport weighed 960 kg. The ducktail rear spoiler, fitted with a front spoiler, was a first for a production Porsche.
