Model History and Information: The Carrera GT is a two-seat, mid-engine roadster that Porsche built from 2003 to 2006, producing 1,270 units. It originated in the LMP 2000 Le Mans Prototype program, which Porsche cancelled in November 1999; the program's 5.7-liter V10, based on an engine Porsche had secretly built for the Footwork Formula One team in 1992, was carried over and adapted for road use in the Carrera GT. The body and chassis use a carbon-fiber monocoque and subframe made by ATR Composites in Italy, paired with carbon-ceramic brakes and a 6-speed manual transmission. Official top speed is 330 km/h (205 mph). A lift-off hard top and an electronically deployed rear wing, which extends above 113 km/h, distinguish the design. Porsche ended production earlier than planned in 2006 because of changing U.S. airbag regulations.
