Model History and Information: Renault officially presented the Floride shortly before the 1958 Paris Motor Show, and production began in June 1959. The name comes from a May 1957 visit to the United States by Renault chairman Pierre Dreyfus, who met the governor of Florida. Ghia was given the design brief, with the limit that the car use the Dauphine's underbody and mechanical parts. The R1092 used a four-cylinder 845 cc engine based on the Dauphine Ventoux unit, rated 40 SAE hp. Shown in New York in January 1959 as the Caravelle, it drew 13,000 orders. The Floride and Caravelle were built until July 1968, totalling 117,113 units.
