Model History and Information: The McDonnell RF-101 Voodoo was the unarmed photo-reconnaissance version of the big, twin-engined F-101, its nose packed with cameras in place of guns and radar. Fast at both low and high level, it could dash over defended areas to bring back imagery, and the type flew important missions during the Cuban Missile Crisis and extensively over Southeast Asia. RF-101A 54-1512 operated from Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base in Thailand in 1965, one of the forward fields from which Voodoos ranged over the region during the Vietnam War. Reconnaissance Voodoos gave commanders the pictures they needed of targets, defences and bomb damage.
