Model History and Information: Entering transatlantic service on her maiden voyage from Southampton on 27 May 1936, this Cunard liner captured the Blue Riband for the fastest Atlantic crossing that August, lost it to the Normandie in 1937 and recaptured it in 1938, holding the record until 1952. During the Second World War she operated as a troopship, at one point carrying over 16,000 personnel on a single crossing, before returning to refitted passenger service between September 1946 and July 1947. Retired from Cunard service in 1967, she has been permanently moored at Long Beach, California, ever since, operating today as a hotel, museum and event venue.
