Model History and Information: The 356 was the model that launched the Porsche marque, built from 1948 with mechanical roots in the Volkswagen Beetle but a lightweight, aerodynamic body of Porsche's own design. The Pre-A cars, produced through 1955 before a major styling revision, kept that pure, rounded early shape with a split or bent windscreen and a rear-mounted air-cooled flat-four engine. This example, from 1953, is finished in red with the chrome bumpers and hubcaps typical of the period.
