Model History and Information: The Jagdpanther combined the long 8.8 cm Pak 43/3 L/71 gun, of the same class carried by the Tiger II, with the hull, engine and running gear of the Panther, producing a tank destroyer that could defeat contemporary Allied armour while keeping the Panther's mobility and sloped glacis. Daimler-Benz showed a full-size model to Hitler in October 1943; production began in January 1944 under MIAG, joined later by Maschinenfabrik Niedersachsen Hannover and Maschinenbau und Bahnbedarf, and the shortened name "Jagdpanther" was adopted that February. Allied bombing held output well below the planned rate: 413 were completed during the war. Later G2-production vehicles switched to the Panther Ausf.G engine deck and a larger, externally bolted gun mantlet, and from May 1944 the original one-piece Pak 43/3 barrel was gradually replaced by a cheaper two-piece design.
