Model History and Information: This mark served extensively in the North African and Mediterranean theatres, where a bulky Vokes tropical filter under the nose protected the Merlin 45 engine from sand and dust. The type carried the standard armament of two 20 mm Hispano cannon and four .303 machine guns. No. 92 (East India) Squadron operated in the Western Desert and Tunisia through late 1942 and early 1943, earning battle honours at El Alamein, the Mareth Line and across the Mediterranean, before supporting the invasion of Sicily.
