StuG.III Ausf.E Kampfgruppe Schill, Slovakia 1944

Product Dimensions: 3.01 x 1.61 x 1.07 in.

Model History and Information: The StuG III Ausf.E followed the Ausf.D on the Alkett production line, built between September 1941 and February 1942 in a run of 284 vehicles. It kept the short 7.5 cm StuK 37 gun of earlier models but added armored boxes to each side of the superstructure, originally meant to house radio equipment for an assault-gun battery commander's vehicle. The extra volume also let the crew carry six more main-gun rounds, for a total of 50. The Ausf.E reached front-line units as Germany's attack on the Soviet Union stalled in the winter of 1941-42, and it continued in service on the Eastern Front and other theaters into the following years as later, longer-gunned models entered production alongside it.
