StuG.III Ausf.A, France 1940
Product Dimensions: 2.94 x 1.60 x 1.07 in.
Model History and Information: The Sturmgeschütz III began in 1936, when Daimler-Benz was contracted to build a low, turretless mount for a short 7.5 cm gun that could support infantry with direct fire. The first series-production model, the Ausf.A, entered production in early 1940 on a modified Panzer III Ausf.F chassis with 50 mm front armor. Only about 30 were built, all by Daimler-Benz, before the line passed to Alkett for the following Ausf.B. Despite the small production run, four assault-gun batteries were equipped with the type in time to take part in the Battle of France in May and June 1940.
