Model History and Information: By 1944 the StuG III Ausf. G had evolved far beyond the short-gun assault vehicle of 1940. Its long 7.5 cm StuK 40 allowed it to destroy tanks as well as engage fortifications, and its fixed casemate kept the silhouette lower and production cheaper than a turreted tank. That blend made the StuG highly useful when Germany faced both defensive infantry battles and increasingly powerful Allied armour. More than 9,000 StuG IIIs of all versions were built.
