Model History and Information: Ukraine's Su-27 fleet has been at the centre of its air defence since February 2022. In the opening hours of the invasion the squadrons left their main bases and dispersed to stretches of highway across the country, so the missile strikes aimed at Ukrainian airfields hit little of value; by 2023 the fighters were being photographed operating from those road strips. That year Ukrainian Su-27s also began carrying JDAM-ER guided bombs supplied by Western partners, adding a strike role to an aircraft designed as a long-range interceptor.
