During that year the US Air Force aerial demonstration team was operating the Northrop T-38 Talon, which it flew from 1974 until 1982. The lightweight supersonic trainer had replaced the F-4 Phantom largely for fuel economy, and its display stressed close formation and rapid maneuvering.
