Model History and Information: The Tiger gave the German army its first tank armed with the 8.8 cm KwK 36, a gun derived from the anti-aircraft weapon whose reputation preceded it, behind 100 mm of frontal armour. Henschel began building it at Kassel in August 1942 at twenty-five vehicles a month, a rate that peaked at 104 in April 1944. It was redesignated Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausf. E in March 1943. In all 1,347 were completed before production ended in August 1944 in favour of the Tiger II, a small number for a machine that shaped how the Allies fought armour.
