Model History and Information: The Curtiss Tomahawk was the British name for the American P-40 fighter, and in 1941 it equipped Allied squadrons fighting over the Western Desert. No. 250 Squadron RAF flew Tomahawks in North Africa, and among its pilots was the Australian Clive Caldwell, nicknamed 'Killer', who became the top-scoring Allied fighter pilot of the desert campaign. Credited with 28 and a half victories in all, Caldwell honed his marksmanship on the Tomahawk against German and Italian aircraft before moving on to the later Kittyhawk and Spitfire. This model represents his Tomahawk Mk.IIB, coded LD-C, in the desert markings of the period.
