Model History and Information: The German Navy's air arm, the Marineflieger, flew the Panavia Tornado in the maritime strike role, and Marinefliegergeschwader 2 operated the type from Eggebek in northern Germany. Replacing the F-104 Starfighter, the Tornado gave the Navy a fast, low-level attacker for anti-shipping and reconnaissance over the Baltic and North Sea. Its main weapon was the AS.34 Kormoran, a sea-skimming anti-ship missile, later joined by the AGM-88 HARM for defence suppression. MFG 2 flew the Tornado from 1986 until 2005, when the unit disbanded and its mission passed to the Air Force, ending German naval fast-jet operations. This model carries the wing's markings with a pair of Kormorans.
