Model History and Information: On 27 November 1957 the US Air Force used the RF-101C Voodoo to set three new transcontinental speed records in an exercise called Operation Sun Run. Flown by pilots of the 363rd Tactical Reconnaissance Wing, the supersonic reconnaissance jets dashed across the United States between Los Angeles and New York, some flying the route one way and others making the round trip, supported by a carefully planned series of aerial refuellings. One aircraft covered Los Angeles to New York in a little over three hours. The flights showed off the speed and range of the RF-101C, the definitive photo-reconnaissance version of the Voodoo. This model wears the markings of a Sun Run aircraft.
