Model History and Information: US school buses have carried children to class since the late 1930s, when transportation officials, educators, and manufacturers meeting at a 1939 conference agreed on national standards for the vehicle, including its body dimensions and its now-familiar paint color. That color, originally named National School Bus Chrome, a reference to the lead-chromate pigment in the paint, is known today as National School Bus Glossy Yellow; it was chosen because its wavelength registers strongly in peripheral vision, making the bus easier for other drivers to notice at the edges of their sight. This pocket-sized model reproduces a typical small, front-engine US school bus body, with the type's tall, boxy shape and bold “SCHOOL BUS” side lettering.
