Model History and Information: Karmann of Osnabruck built open Beetles for Volkswagen from 1949 to 1980. The 1303 range replaced the 1302 in August 1972, and Volkswagen lists the 1303 Cabriolet from 1972 to 1980, outlasting the 1303 saloon, which ended in 1975. The 1302 of 1970 had introduced a new front axle with MacPherson suspension struts. The last Beetle convertible left the Karmann line in Osnabruck on 10 January 1980, by which point more than 330,000 fabric-roof Beetles had been built.
