Volkswagen had decided in 1984 to keep building the Scirocco II and to position the Corrado above it. The G60 was the launch engine, a 1.8-liter four-cylinder with the G-Lader supercharger, rated at 118 kW (160 PS). The car was front-wheel drive, and its rear spoiler extended automatically at 120 km\/h.
